The concept behind To Be Determined is to create a space that makes art feel more accessible to people who are interested in sharing their creativity. The laid-back environment takes away the intimidation factor of art and generates a new community within Lincoln, Nebraska. At TBD all are considered artists within the graffiti paradise. In this space, users can come and observe artists in their elements, learn more about the work, or create a design of their own. There is a wide variety of designing options available including; hand painting and computer designing paintings.
Since art museums and galleries can sometimes feel intimidating we wanted to create a
space where all people felt welcomed to be. Observing and making art should be something that is implemented and available to all. To Be Determined is a graffiti workshop that is a place to showcase, create art, and even take art home with you. The building is located in downtown Lincoln where a fast-food restaurant used to occupy. Since the pandemic, buildings, much like the Amigos downtown, have been abandoned. We decided to focus on and repurpose abandoned fast-food buildings. Much like how drive-thrus have benefited the food industry, TBD fulfills that role in the art industry. This “drive-thru” art experience introduces a new aspect to public art and community events. The interior of the building is mostly used for storage, help, and cleaning stations with the outside being the main workshop, where the art creating happens.
