HOOKED is a space for education and culture housed in a parking garage in Lincoln, Nebraska. Hooked is a product that originated from the idea of the Anthropocene Backloop and revolves around re-establishing the connections and attitude lost due to COVID-19. As the pandemic continues to alter daily life, Hooked lends its walls to making, learning, and showcasing the creativity of its guests. As one enters the space, they are met with the stage and its modular seating. The sets of furniture caters to the space for dialogue. As one continues to move further, the user encounters the center gathering space which can be reconfigured with ramps and more seating. In the back, the learning space and its configurable walls serve as a medium for active learning.
Meanwhile, the top floor is allocated to a shop for making, a space that reconfigures its walls for hands-on projects such as cooking, making sports equipment, and even profitable goods. The dynamic sphere of the space functions with the aid of the existing gantry crane in the garage. The gantry crane was used for hooking and hoisting goods across the warehouse back in its industrial use. In Hooked, the gantry serves a modern day system where one can both find meaning and fun. The active system of tectonics provides the opportunity to step outside again, to learn something new, and to make it your own. With all that in mind, are you hooked yet?
